We are continually developing and updating this section with information for new GSGS members (“newbies”). As soon as someone registers as a GSGS member through the form “Application for Admission as Doctoral Student”, they will get personal access to this section and some other sections of the GSGS wiki.
After submitting your supervision agreement, you will gain full access.

The regular GSGS Consultation Hour is on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 12 o'clock noon.
Short-term changes are advertised on the GSGS Notice Board.

After you log in via the following Zoom link you will enter the vitual waiting room. Please wait there until you are let in to the main virtual room. In principle, 5-10 minutes are available per person (depending on the number of people waiting and the nature of your query).
We will talk to people in the order in which they enter the waiting room. Should the envisaged waiting time be very long, we will let you know and make alternative arrangements if necessary.

The following mailings lists are available (all ending in @uni-koeln.de):

• gsgs-students is a newsletter list for (potential) doctoral candidate members of the GSGS (members receive mails but cannot send mails to the list themselves);
• gsgs-profs is a newsletter list for advisors and (potential) TAC members in the Department of Geosciences;
• gsgs-tac is a newsletter list for TAC members from outside our Department.

New members are normally put on one of the above lists by the GSGS Office (after their consent).

You can sign up yourself for:

• gsgs-social: a discussion list for doctoral candidates of the GSGS to share and receive announcements of social events, including those organised by the GSGS Doctoral Council;
• gsgs-careers: a discussion list for doctoral candidate members. The GSGS Office sends information about job fairs, job announcements and most career-related training events to this list (rather than to “gsgs-students”). Via this list you can receive and share career opportunities to GSGS members. Feel free to share any opportunities you feel might be interesting to other GSGS members;
• gsgs-alumni: a newsletter for alumni of the GSGS (1-2 times per year);

Apart from that, we have these dedicated contact e-mail addresses (all ending in @uni-koeln.de):

• Messages to gradschool-geosci go to both Hannah and Karin;
• Through gsgs-admin you primarily reach our student assistant;
• through gsgs-council you reach the members of the GSGS Doctoral Council.
